Our new approach to advanced leadership training is to hold online events and produce recordings of the events for the CDS CC Library.   We invite you to develop leadership by exploring and accessing expertise on current, relevant topics via our pilot online project, during which we will explore of these themes together in 2017:

  • Build a strong GM/Board relationship
  • Compete to Thrive - a board primer on competing in the “new normal”
  • Qualify and elect Directors
  • Co-op Impact! Co-op Participation!

2016 Upcoming Online Events

Here’s the immediate line-up for Fall 2016 that will introduce the major themes we’ll carry into 2017.  We invite your participation and feedback as we test new technologies. Ongoing scheduling will be announced in our newsletter and through social media.

These online events will take place Wednesdays at noon Central Time. We’ll gather feedback on the days and times and update information here on this website as we continue.

First up will be a short series, on making the most of the CBLD program. This series will both share examples of how to achieve high value from the program, AND will be an opportunity to  test and get your feedback on our new approach to holding online events.

We invite your participation in an exploration of the following themes for 2017.  Each of these themes connects to the Four Pillars of Cooperative Governance.

Exploration of 2017 Themes Part I
11/2/16 - 12pm CT

  • Overview of new approach
  • Build a strong GM/Board relationship. For all co-ops, those with GM transitions and new GMs, board leadership succession and high turnover on their boards. (Accountability)
  • Compete to Thrive - a board primer on competing in the “new normal”  Understand the grocery business and seismic shifts in the marketplace as foundational elements to governing a food co-op. (Strategic Leadership & Accountability)

Exploration of 2017 Themes Part II
11/9/16 - 12pm CT

  • Overview of new approach
  • Building a Strong Board. Explore practices for board perpetuation, including recruiting, qualifying, electing and orienting directors. (Teaming)
  • Co-op Impact! Co-op Participation! This 2017 Co-op Cafe theme will include many stories and conversations of the positive impact created by our co-ops and the diverse and widespread participation that produces that impact. So, in addition to sending a bus load of people to an in-person Co-op Cafe event you can also participate in online events on the same theme. (Participation/Democracy)
