Power of Participation

Strong relationships drive growth!

CDS Consulting Co-op is now piloting the Power of Participation (POP!) Program to give co-ops the support they need to enhance owner and customer engagement, invigorate staff commitment to co-op outcomes, and positively impact their competitive position in the marketplace.

How does it work?

The POP program has identified specific systems, processes and activities that serve as important touchpoints between co-op participants and co-op goals.

It starts with a thorough POP Scan to evaluate those touchpoints across participant groups, from store to staff to board: How well are your co-op’s marketing plan and membership materials opening the door to engagement? Is staff culture healthy and inclusive? Is your board communicating your co-op’s story articulately?

The POP Scan measures how well your co-op uses relevant operations to enhance participation to achieve co-op goals while looking for strength of connection and how those connections might be improved.

The POP Scan also includes a comprehensive social media analysis to assess overall effectiveness of engagement, as well as strategy, budget and social media policies, and offers some immediately implementable suggestions to optimize your current program. 

The scan serves as a baseline tool and defines the scope for project work and ongoing support in areas related to participation, such as branding and messaging, digital connectedness, community outreach programs, customer service, staff input and communication, and board-owner engagement. Your co-op is assigned a POP consultant who works closely with you long-term to see that your participation needs and goals are met.  

Another benefit of the POP Program is high contact with other POP pilot Pioneers: Seven co-ops are currently enrolled in the program. They pool information and collaborate on work projects. Some of that work becomes resource material available in the CDS Consulting Co-op Library.

The ongoing development of POP! has been exciting and we encourage GMs who are interested in fostering participation at any level within their co-ops to enroll in this rewarding new program.
