Love Bill

All are invited to "the best ever" Celebration of the Life of Bill Gessner,
our beloved friend who died January 14, 2019.
The Celebration will be held on Saturday, May 18 from 4-10 pm
at the InnerCity Tennis Center in Martin Luther King Jr. Park
at the corner of 40th St and Nicollet Avenue in South Minneapolis.

To assist with planning (we need to be sure we have enough chairs, etc.), please RSVP.

Before the Celebration, there will be an open house at Bill’s home 24 W 37th Street, 55409 from 1:00-4:00 pm

The Celebration will include:

  • 4:00-6:00 Tennis and Ping Pong! Wear comfortable clothes. Bring tennis shoes and your racket or borrow one from the tennis center. Bill’s tennis coach will be on hand to support all players. We will follow Bill’s rules: a) Have fun; b) No one gets hurt; c) Try to hit the ball over the net; and, of course, d) Try for continuous improvement.
  • 5:00-6:30 A vegetarian potluck supplemented by food from local food co-ops. (Don’t worry if you can’t bring anything.)
  • 700-9:00 Program including music, speakers and an opportunity for all to share stories, songs, poems and memories.
  • Photos and other memorabilia will be on display all evening. Bring items to share.

Bill Gessner died from a fatal heart attack at the Courage Center where he was making incredible and continuous improvement in recovering from a stroke he suffered at the end of November. To learn more of his last days, go to his Caring Bridge site.

To honor Bill and recognize his impact, please contribute to the Bill Gessner Memorial:

  • Support for startup food co-ops
  • Cooperative growth and development
  • Coaching and mentoring
  • International Cooperative Principles

Lodging: We will be coordinating home stays for out-of-town guests. If you live in the Twin Cities and have a spare room or if you are out of town and would like to stay with a friend of Bill’s in the Twin Cities, please contact Gail Graham and/or make a note in your RSVP.

If you can’t come but want to send a story or memento to add to the display, contact Marilyn Scholl.
